How is placenta previa treated

Patient's question:

Hello doctor, when I was 18 weeks pregnant, I had an ultrasound, and the doctor said my placenta was low, but the fetus was developing normally. Could you please tell me if a low-lying placenta will cause any problems? Is it placenta previa? How should it be treated? Thank you

Doctor's answer:

When the hazards of placenta previa are significant and it is not possible to perform a conservative treatment to preserve the pregnancy, a cesarean section should be performed for the safety of the pregnant woman. A cesarean section helps women with placenta previa to quickly conclude the delivery, and the delivery of the fetus within a short period is relatively safe for both the mother and the child. This is currently the main method for managing placenta previa. Patients with complete placenta previa must undergo a cesarean section to conclude the delivery. For partial or marginal placenta previa in primiparas, a cesarean section is also recommended. Performing a timely and decisive cesarean section to immediately conclude the delivery can reduce fetal trauma and perinatal morbidity, and it is also an emergency measure for severe bleeding caused by placenta previa.
