Why is the semen volume low

Patient's question:

First time having sex after a month, the semen was very little. If having sex once a day, there was no semen flowing out of the woman's vagina after ejaculation. This has been going on for a year.

Doctor's answer:

Common reasons for low semen volume are as follows:
1. Physiological hypo-semenia is seen in patients with frequent sexual activity. For example, some men engage in sexual intercourse once or several times a day, resulting in relatively less semen volume with each ejaculation.
2. Pathological hypo-semenia is primarily caused by seminal vesiculitis or prostatitis. Studies show that 60% of semen is secreted by the seminal vesicles, and 25% is secreted by the prostate. When the seminal vesicles or prostate are inflamed, the production of semen naturally decreases. Inflammation can also block the openings of these two glands, obstructing semen discharge.
3. Some pathological hypo-semenia is also due to insufficient testicular function or endocrine disorders in the body.
4. A few patients have urethral disorders, such as urethral stricture or urethral diverticula, which prevent semen from being fully expelled during ejaculation.
