For each character, it first lists the character's form, followed by the explanation of the character by Xu Shen, the character's annotation meaning, the character's borrowed meaning, as well as phonetic training materials, ancient rhyme materials, and tonal variation materials related to the character. An index and supplements are appended. During the photolithography process, renowned scholars were invited to punctuate the text.
