How long does one session of pelvic cancer radiotherapy take?

Patient's question:

Half a month ago, my great-aunt was diagnosed with pelvic cancer. Her family's financial condition is good, and the doctor recommended radiotherapy. However, the family wants to know how long one session of radiotherapy for pelvic cancer lasts?

Doctor's answer:

The tumor is sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, indicating a high degree of malignancy and a tendency to recur. Radiotherapy is ineffective for benign tumors, and the pathology is clear. No further tests are needed. Combined with CT, it is likely cancer, possibly ovarian cancer. If there is a lot of ascites, it can be drained to check for tumor cells. Surgery is not performed at this stage. Given the severity, even if surgery is considered, it may not be feasible. It is likely that only a subtotal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy can be performed. It is still best to consult a surgeon as soon as possible. For advanced-stage tumors, the prognosis is not favorable, and the survival time is unlikely to be long.
