History of Chinese Political Thought (3 volumes): New Century Universal Library · Modern Culture Book Series

Author: Xiao Gongquan
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 1998-01-01
Features: The book is divided into three major parts based on the historical background of political thought: political thought in the feudal world, political thought in the autocratic world, and political thought in modern nations. It is further analyzed into four periods of evolution: creation, inheritance, transformation, and maturity, comprising five volumes and twenty-five chapters, covering the period from pre-Qin times to Sun Yat-sen. However, the chapter on Sun Yat-sen has a title but no content. The author mentions that the original manuscript was lost, while Professor Wang Rongzu states: "Mr. Gongquan viewed the Three Principles of the People as the maturation of Chinese political thought, which was influenced by the era. At the time of writing and publishing the book, it was still the period of Nationalist Party, where Sun Yat-sen's teachings and the Three Principles of the People were considered inviolable 'sacred doctrines.' To criticize them would be met with reluctance, and to comment on them might invite censure. Therefore, although there was originally a chapter on Sun Yat-sen, it was ultimately excluded. By following the principle of 'avoiding speculation' and achieving the effect of 'not concealing but not revealing,' the author made this decision."
