Publishing Date: 1987-09-01
Features: This dictionary contains a total of 2017 entries, categorized into seven sections: general terms, schools and styles, opening, middle game, endgame, important tournaments and competition systems, figures, organizations, works, and periodicals. Entries are arranged by category. Additionally, there are three appendices: the International Chess Federation's rules of chess, selected games between famous players from China and abroad, and results of important chess tournaments. The names of entries generally prioritize commonly used terms. For entries with multiple names or translations, the most appropriate or conventional ones are selected as the main entries, while others are listed as cross-references. Cross-reference entries do not include definitions. For entries with multiple meanings that belong to the same category, they are presented in separate items (1, 2, 3). If they belong to two or more categories, each category provides separate explanations. The asterisk () in the definitions indicates that the term has a dedicated entry in this dictionary for further reference. Foreign names and organizations adopt commonly accepted translations. For some translations that may vary but are still in use, the principle of convention is followed. Foreign names are generally accompanied by their original language. The definitions and appendices include chess tournament and player achievements (rankings) up to the end of 1985. The dictionary includes illustrations of some equipment and chess diagrams, totaling 1,314 images. At the beginning of the book, there is a classified index of entries arranged in the same order as the main text, and at the end, there is a stroke index.
