How to treat multiple uterine fibroids effectively

Patient's question:

I was only discovered to have fibroids in the year 2000. At first, I had a check-up every month, but they didn't grow, so I switched to checking every six months. But who knew that in the second half of last year, three more were found, making it a total of four—now they are multiple uterine fibroids. However, my menstruation is normal, not too heavy, and I don't feel any discomfort, though sometimes when I squat, I feel a slight sensation of heaviness in my lower abdomen.

Doctor's answer:

The occurrence of uterine fibroids is related to hormonal imbalance. Generally, fibroids smaller than 5 centimeters that do not cause frequent menstruation or excessive menstrual flow do not require surgery and can be treated with medication to control their growth. Fibroids larger than 5 centimeters are usually recommended for surgical treatment. A single fibroid can often be removed through surgery. For multiple fibroids in patients who have not yet entered menopause, it is recommended to remove the uterus to prevent the fibroids from growing back.
