Features: Existentialism is a significant school of Western philosophy in the 20th century, which became popular after World War II and its influence continues to this day. In the early 1980s, the Ministry of Education at that time assigned me to edit a collection of materials for philosophy students at universities. After more than ten years, it is finally presented to the readers, and I am deeply sorry. The origins of existentialism are generally traced back to Kierkegaard and Nietzsche. This collection begins with these two philosophers and primarily translates the works of influential philosophers. The selected essays focus on the representative works of these philosophers, aiming to show the development and evolution of existentialism. The entire collection is divided into two volumes: the first volume selects the works of Kierkegaard and the main existentialist philosophers in German-speaking countries, while the second volume selects the works of the main existentialist philosophers in French-speaking countries and other nations. In 1963, the Commercial Press published the book "Existentialist Philosophy," edited by my teacher He Lin, who is celebrating his 90th birthday this year, and I was one of the contributors. Thirty years later, the younger generation of scholars gathered together to co-host this event, and once again, this book is completed. I hope this book will contribute to the research and critique of existentialism. The completion of this collection is largely due to my juniors, Wang Wei and Du Xiaozhen. The substantial work of selection, translation, editing, and review could only be accomplished with the help of these two colleagues. I sincerely express my gratitude to them. At the same time, we are also very grateful to all the translators and reviewers for their hard work and strong support.
