What are the reasons for bleeding outside of the menstrual period

Patient's question:

Last time it was on December 4th, and it was always very regular, with a cycle of about 30 days, lasting around five days each time. This time, on December 20th, there was a small amount of bleeding that has continued until now, with occasional mild discomfort in the lower abdomen. Recently, I've been under a lot of stress and feeling quite tense. I've taken Yinhuang capsules and Artificial Coptis Rhizoma Metronidazole for a heat-related issue.

Doctor's answer:

Irregular menstruation has many causes, which are typically classified into two major categories in clinical practice: one is functional, such as irregular menstruation caused by endocrine dysfunction; the other is organic, such as conditions like pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, and endometriosis, which can also lead to irregular menstruation.
It is recommended to visit a hospital for a check-up and take medication accordingly. In daily life, consume more foods that boost qi and blood, or traditional Chinese medicine for regulating menstruation, such as angelica sinensis (Dang Gui), astragalus (Huang Qi), and Leonurus japonicus (Yi Mu Cao). Drink plenty of water, eat less spicy and irritating foods, pay attention to a balanced diet, and exercise more.
Wishing you good health.
