How long does it take for menstruation to come after taking progesterone? What should be done?

Patient's question:

At the end of August, I had a D&C surgery (menstruation continued for over 20 days). A month later, my period returned to normal, but then it stopped coming.

Doctor's answer:

Typically, menstrual bleeding occurs within one week after taking progesterone (i.e., within one week after stopping the medication). Some people may experience it within 10 days, so there's no need to worry. If you haven't had your period after stopping the medication for 7 or 8 days, you should go to the hospital. The doctor will first rule out pregnancy and, if you're not pregnant, use an ultrasound to check the condition of your uterus. Then, they will decide whether to continue the medication or advise you to wait another day or two for your period to arrive.
