Features: A book documenting the 15th anniversary of the development and opening-up of Pudong New Area. It is a review of the past and also a prospect for the future, serving as a beautiful omen for the early years of the 21st century. With beautiful eyes, Pudong is seen through the lens of a young writer who conducts an in-depth investigation, offering a unique perspective on Pudong and China's economy. It blends thoughts and ideas, carving fresh vitality into the economic trends of the century. On April 18, 1990, the central government announced the official development and opening-up of Pudong. In the blink of an eye, 15 years have passed. During these 15 years, the changes in Pudong can be described as earth-shattering: boundless farmland transformed into towering skyscrapers, making Pudong one of the most attractive international financial and trading districts; talents from around the world flocked to Pudong, turning the former suburban area of Shanghai into an internationally oriented talent hub. Similarly, the life and work patterns of Shanghai residents have undergone significant changes in these 15 years. In the past, crossing the river to work might have been a painful experience, and living in Pudong was even unimaginable for those accustomed to the convenience of Puxi. The saying "I'd rather have a single bed in Puxi than a room in Pudong" reflected Shanghai people's perception of Pudong. Today, the livelihoods in Pudong have become as vibrant and diverse as its economic development. Here, there are not only high-end residential areas like Sherming Riverside Garden and Biyun Villa, but also excellent residential areas suitable for ordinary people, such as Lianyang Community. At the same time, rail transit, the Pujiang Bridge, and the Pujiang Tunnel have tightly connected Pudong and Puxi, making the Huangpu River no longer an obstacle to their connection. These changes that have taken place on Pudong's land are inseparable from the central government's policy of developing and opening-up Pudong, as well as the hard work of the people who have created miracles on this land over the past 15 years. To commemorate the 15th anniversary of Pudong's development and opening-up, and to honor the contributions made to Pudong's construction, the author spent over a year interviewing and investigating all aspects of Pudong to complete the manuscript of Understanding Pudong. This manuscript begins with a review of the history of Pudong's development and opening-up, presenting a comprehensive and detailed picture of Pudong's new appearance over the past 15 years. The author primarily describes Pudong's achievements over the past 15 years from four perspectives: the overall development, the five major bases, living support facilities, and key figures. In the eyes of people, Pudong is a center for finance, trade, and high-tech industries, where renowned and promising enterprises have gathered in places like Lujiazui, Jinqiao, Waigaoqiao, and Zhangjiang. Based on a comprehensive description of these four areas, the author introduces representative enterprises from each park. Having first-class enterprises requires attracting first-class talent, and a key factor in attracting talent is whether the regional living environment is satisfactory. Therefore, after introducing Lujiazui and Waigaoqiao, the author turns to examine Pudong's living support facilities. Here, she discusses Pudong's transportation, green spaces, housing, and various life facilities, giving readers a general understanding of living in Pudong. First-class living facilities and first-class work environments require first-class talent to add their brilliance. A talent hub is one of the goals of Pudong's development, making talent a highlight worth specially writing about in the 15 years of Pudong's development and opening-up. The author selects historical figures in Pudong's history and representative figures who are currently contributing to its development. These figures include not only domestic talent that has contributed to Pudong's economic development but also foreigners, artists, and others, providing a relatively comprehensive reflection of Pudong's current talent situation.
