Is endometrial hyperplasia a precancerous condition?

Patient's question:

Approximately two or three years ago, mainly irregular menstruation, sometimes more, sometimes less, and no regular schedule.

Doctor's answer:

Endometrial hyperplasia refers to a group of proliferative lesions that occur in the endometrium, with only a small number capable of slowly progressing to cancer. The primary cause of endometrial hyperplasia is mainly related to long-term estrogen stimulation, such as: anovulation, which keeps the endometrium in a prolonged proliferative state without cyclic secretory transformation; or high levels of endogenous (e.g., endocrine functional tumors in the ovaries or pituitary) or exogenous (e.g., estrogen replacement therapy) estrogen stimulation.
Endometrial curettage should be performed for clinically suspected cases to obtain a histological diagnosis. Histologically, endometrial hyperplasia is classified as simple hyperplasia, complex hyperplasia, and atypical hyperplasia.
