Features: It's hard to start, but Zheng Peimin, with his solid knowledge base and exceptional work ability, brought new vitality to the teaching of political courses and Communist Youth League work at Xiangtan Electric Machinery Plant in his first year there. His rigorous and down-to-earth work ethic, as well as his honest and modest attitude, earned him praise from both leaders and teachers. It was due to this outstanding performance that, in January 1971, less than a year after joining Xiang Machine Youth Middle School, Zheng Peimin was transferred to become an organizational staff member of the Party Committee and deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League, taking charge of the daily operations of the Xiang Machine Youth League.
After the start of the "Cultural Revolution," the Communist Youth League organizations at all levels across the country were temporarily paralyzed. In 1969, efforts began to reorganize and rebuild the League, restoring its work. However, due to the deep-rooted problems, when Zheng Peimin took office, the Xiang Machine Youth League had still not resumed normal operations. Meanwhile, the Youth League branch of Xiang Machine Youth Middle School, which he had spearheaded, was thriving and became a model for the entire plant's League work.
Facing new tasks, the young, capable, and energetic Zheng Peimin acted swiftly. He studied and comprehended the relevant directives from higher authorities on reorganizing and rebuilding the League, combining them with the actual needs of the enterprise's League work, and began to systematically revitalize and build the League.
First, he focused on training League cadres. Zheng Peimin gathered all the committee members from the various Youth League branches across the plant and launched a night school for League cadres, organizing them to study the basics of the League. He personally selected and compiled materials for the cadres' lessons, covering topics such as the nature of the Communist Youth League, the conditions for joining, the rights and obligations of League members, the relationship between the Party and the League, and how to carry out League activities and be an effective League cadre. He explained these concepts in a meticulous and detailed manner.
Thanks to his own ability to learn and think deeply, coupled with his experience in League work, Zheng Peimin made the seemingly dry and rigid provisions of the League's basic knowledge come alive. His explanations inspired the cadres and provided them with great benefits.
Second, he worked hard to build a strong and united League leadership team. To improve the quality of the team members, Zheng Peimin started with foundational work.
1. Theoretical Study: He organized the team members to study Marxist classics, such as Lenin's "The Great Initiation" and Mao Zedong's "The Direction of the Youth Movement," on a regular schedule. He required each League cadre to combine theory with practice, writing reflections based on current events or their own thoughts and work. Zheng Peimin personally edited and reviewed their work, and held regular discussion meetings where each person made a keynote speech on a specific topic. Through this persistent effort, the team members' theoretical level, as well as their written and verbal communication skills, gradually improved.
2. Practical Work Experience: Zheng Peimin gave the team members autonomy but also provided guidance, encouraging them to take the initiative in their work and grow in their abilities through real-world experience.
3. Creating a Positive Team Atmosphere: Zheng Peimin had a personal understanding that a good team atmosphere was crucial to work performance. He was considerate, sincere, and treated his colleagues as equals—friends, comrades, teachers, and brothers. He emphasized both principles and discipline while also advocating for strategy and style. When conflicts or disputes arose within the team, he patiently mediated and guided, resolving issues before they escalated. As a result, every cadre working under Zheng Peimin felt at ease and warm, as if in a spring-like environment. The team members were harmonious, energetic, and highly motivated, working with enthusiasm and efficiency.
This positive team atmosphere was an invisible force for success, as well as a spiritual nourishment that brought happiness to every member. It was a memory cherished for decades, with former League cadres who had fought alongside Zheng Peimin still gathering to reminisce about those unforgettable and beautiful times.
Third, he actively organized various beneficial activities. Zheng Peimin was highly organized in everything he did, and his work with the League followed the same principle: clear goals, specific measures, and thorough implementation. On a regular basis, he focused on cultivating, discovering, and promoting role models to inspire broader progress in the League's work across the enterprise. Through various activities, he ensured that League members played a pioneering and exemplary role among the youth, serving as reliable assistants and forces for the Party, continuously providing fresh talent to the Party organization.
Through these "three moves," within a few months, the Communist Youth League work at Xiang Machine Plant had gotten back on track and played a leading role in youth work.
