Features: Landscape painters in the Qing Dynasty exhibited diverse styles and numerous schools. Wang Shimin, Wang Jian, Wang Hui, and Wang Yuanqi were collectively known as the "Four Wangs," and together with Wu Li and Yun Shouping, they formed the "Six Masters of the Qing Dynasty." They all adhered to the painting theories of Dong Qichang from the late Ming Dynasty, promoting literati painting and taking the "Four Masters of Yuan Dynasty" (Huang Gongwang, Wu Zhen, Wang Meng, and Ni Zan) as models, emphasizing the study of ancient traditions. Their stylistic system was revered as the orthodox tradition in the art world during the Qing Dynasty. Wang Shimin and Wang Yuanqi represented the Loudong School, while Wang Hui represented the Yushan School, which were the two largest painting schools in the Qing Dynasty. Hong Ren, Ku Can, Zhu Da, and Shi Tao were four renowned Buddhist painters of the early Qing Dynasty, known as the "Four Monks" in art history. Their techniques were largely influenced by the "Four Masters of Yuan Dynasty," while their styles ranged from serene and secluded to dynamic and unrestrained, emphasizing individual expression. Hong Ren was also part of the "Four Masters of Haiyang" alongside Cha Shizhao, Sun Yi, and Wang Zhirui. The "Eight Masters of Jinling" were led by Gong Xian, including Fan Qi, Wu Hong, and others, eight painters based in Nanjing. Despite their diverse painting methods, they mostly drew inspiration from the Song Dynasty, avoiding the schools of the "Four Masters of Yuan Dynasty" and Dong Qichang, and were placed outside the literati painting tradition. Their styles were generally meticulous. Other schools, such as the Gu Shu School represented by Xiao Yuncong, the Xuancheng School represented by Mei Qing, and the Jiangxi School represented by Luo Mu, each had painters with unique achievements and characteristics. This volume includes twelve small-scale landscape paintings from the Qing Dynasty, featuring painters such as Wang Shimin, one of the "Four Wangs"; Qiji Jia and Cha Shizhao, who learned from Dong Qichang; Gong Xian and Wu Hong from the "Eight Masters of Jinling"; Yun Shouping, Zhang Zongcang, and Pu He, among others. Their styles are diverse and highly captivating.
