Patient's question:

Cervical polyps are often overlooked because over one-third of patients lack obvious symptoms and are only discovered during a doctor's examination. Even when symptoms do occur, they are usually mild, primarily characterized by slight, fresh red spotting or minor bleeding after sexual intercourse, which is sometimes mistaken for "menstruation." In some cases, the bleeding volume can be similar to that of a normal menstrual period. Some patients may have yellowish or foul-smelling vaginal discharge, with or without blood streaks. It can also manifest as postmenopausal vaginal bleeding, and unmarried patients may present with a swollen mass protruding from the vaginal opening.Very small cervical polyps often cause no symptoms and are usually detected during a gynecological examination. Larger polyps are more likely to cause bloody discharge or contact bleeding, especially after sexual intercourse or straining during bowel movements, resulting in minor bleeding. These symptoms are very similar to those of early cervical cancer, so early examination and timely treatment are essential.
