Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose:

Duration and persistence of the current episode:
It has persisted for almost a year.
Current general condition:
It improves with medication but recurs without it.
Additional question: The hospital confirmed it as bacterial vaginosis, not yeast vaginosis.

Doctor's answer:

Hello: If diagnosed with candidal vulvovaginitis, a 2%--4% baking soda solution can be used daily to rinse the external genitalia and vagina or for sitz baths. A 10-day course is recommended to alter the pH and create conditions unfavorable for the survival of Candida. Then, nystatin should be used, such as in powder, tablet, suppository, or cream form, inserted into the vagina or applied locally. The dosage is 10--20 million units per time, once nightly, with a 10--14-day course. The external genitalia can also be treated with 3% miconazole cream for better results. Since this condition is persistent and prone to recurrence, local treatment is generally preferred. Alternatively, oral nystatin tablets can be taken at a dose of 50--100 million units, three times daily, with a 7--10-day course. Follow-up testing is necessary, and the condition is considered cured only after three consecutive negative results.
