Features: The interaction between marine economy and marine environmental change is a core issue in studying the sustainable development of the marine economy. This book takes the East China Sea region (including its offshore islands) and its adjacent coastal zones as the marine regional unit to explore the historical interactive relationship between ecological environment and economic development. Based on an ocean-centered perspective, it adopts an integrated approach combining history with other disciplines, incorporating the marine zone into the framework of marine regional analysis to restore the historical status of the marine zone as a marine economic zone. It corrects the bias of overemphasizing land over the sea and changes the analytical approach that treats the marine economy as terrestrialized, separating the marine industry from the classification of land-based sectors such as agriculture, industry, commerce, and transportation to reconstruct the marine regional economic system and restore the historical appearance of the marine economy. It incorporates the ecological environment into regional historical studies, using the coordination of human-sea relationships as an indicator to evaluate history, highlighting the significance of environmental marine regional economic development. By summarizing historical lessons and extracting traditional civilizational factors conducive to modernization from historical heritage, it provides references for the sustainable development of the marine economy and environmental protection in the new century.
