Does an ovarian cyst affect a woman's ability to get pregnant?

Patient's question:

Please ask: I am 28 years old and have had irregular periods. I took Chinese medicine to regulate my menstrual cycle. During this period, I took 50mg of clomiphene (5 pills, 2 times) after which a 30mm x 29mm cyst developed on my right ovary. It has been one month now. Can taking Chinese medicine for ovulation induction regulate my period and eliminate the cyst? Will it affect pregnancy? How should it be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: It is best to have active treatment. The only treatment for ovarian tumors is surgical removal. For cysts with a diameter of less than 5 to 6 cm, observation for 3 to 6 months is recommended. If the cyst continues to grow, or if the tumor has a diameter of less than 5 cm but is solid, surgical removal should be performed. For children and young, childless patients, the approach often involves the removal of the affected ovary or the affected adnexa. If the bilateral ovarian tumors are benign, doctors may consider performing an ovarian cystectomy to preserve as much ovarian tissue as possible, thereby maintaining menstrual and reproductive functions. Laparoscopic surgery has smaller abdominal incisions and a faster recovery.
