Publishing Date: 2000-10-01
Features: This collection includes Mr. Wu Shichang's "A Study of the Sources of the Dream of the Red Chamber" and several related essays, which are foundational papers on his research of "Dream of the Red Chamber." "A Study of the Sources of the Dream of the Red Chamber" was originally written in English during Mr. Wu's tenure as a lecturer at the University of Oxford. The translations included in this book are the Chinese versions of "A Study of the Sources of the Dream of the Red Chamber," combining two parts of the translated text. The value of a great work lies not only in its captivating plot but also in its reflection of the pulse of its time, and in the broad and profound vision of the author. This book delves into the author's original intentions and the structure of the novel, revealing aspects that differ significantly from the currently popular "complete" version of "Dream of the Red Chamber."
