How old can a child turn over?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: Currently, he/she cannot roll over on their own. Is this normal? Is it due to a vitamin deficiency?

Doctor's answer:

In folk tradition, there is a saying that babies go through three rolls, six sits, and eight crawls. Tummy time (reversing) often occurs after a baby can hold their head up, which is common among infants aged 4 to 7 months. However, the exact time it takes for a baby to achieve this movement varies from child to child. Some children may roll over once before the age of three months and never roll again, while others may skip rolling altogether and directly start sitting or standing. There are also cases where a child learns to roll over only after they begin to stand.
At four months, babies can gradually start this kind of training. When the baby is lying on their back, place their right leg on top of their left leg, bend their arms, and gently pull their right hand while using the other hand to push their back, slowly turning them into a prone position. You can also use colorful and interesting toys to attract the baby to roll over on their own, encouraging them continuously. Under suitable room temperature, you may appropriately reduce the baby’s clothing to keep it loose to avoid hindering their flexibility. With regular practice every day, they will gradually learn to roll over.
