Does cervical erosion affect fertility?

Patient's question:

Does cervical erosion affect fertility? I went to the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor prescribed medication, but I don't know if it will be effective.

Doctor's answer:

Hello! Cervical erosion is divided into mild, moderate, and severe degrees. Mild cervical erosion is when the erosion area accounts for 1/3 of the total area of the cervix, moderate cervical erosion is when the erosion area accounts for 1/2 of the cervix, and severe cervical erosion is when the erosion area exceeds more than 1/2 of the total area of the cervix. Cervical erosion can often affect pregnancy due to the following reasons:
1. An increase in cervical secretions mixed with a large number of white blood cells and pathogenic bacteria, disrupting the normal physiological environment of the vagina, limiting sperm motility, and shortening its survival time.
2. Inflammation of the cervical mucosa can cause polyps to grow, blocking the cervix and directly affecting the smooth passage of sperm.
3. Thicker cervical mucus hinders the normal movement of sperm.
There is a certain correlation between cervical erosion and infertility, but it is not absolute. With proper treatment, as long as the cervical erosion heals or improves, pregnancy is very possible.
