How to reduce breast atrophy after breastfeeding

Patient's question:

Hello Doctor! I gave birth to my child in January of this year and then had a nine-month breastfeeding period. Now that I have been weaning for over a month, I have noticed that my breasts have shrunk significantly, almost to the point of being flat. I would like to ask the doctor what I should do about this. I took one day of weaning pills and some malt water when I weaned, and I wonder if that could be the reason. Is there any way to make my breasts fuller? I would be very grateful for your help!

Doctor's answer:

Nursing-induced breast sagging and deformation is a very common phenomenon. After weaning, the breasts return to their pre-pregnancy state as they no longer produce milk. Due to the hormonal changes during pregnancy, the breasts grow again. During breastfeeding, the fullness of milk makes the breasts even larger. Therefore, after weaning, when milk production stops, the breasts shrink, the skin loosens, and the breasts sag.
For your situation, it is recommended to use a supportive bra to lift the breasts. Strengthening chest exercises can also enhance the pectoral muscle, helping to lift the front part of the breasts. If the results are not satisfactory, surgical options such as breast augmentation can be considered.
