Patient's question:
Bleeding between periods. It has been happening for about half a year. At first, it was just a small amount of light red discharge. But this month, there was dark brown discharge, followed by blood, like it was about to start menstruation. It came twice in one day and then stopped. Is there a problem? Do I need to get checked?
Currently, I have no sexual activity.
Doctor's answer:
Hello: Based on your situation, it should be considered as ovulatory bleeding. If there are other abnormalities, there should be no major issues.During the mid-cycle, i.e., the ovulation period, due to a temporary decline in estrogen levels, the endometrium loses hormonal support, leading to partial shedding of the endometrium and resulting in regular vaginal bleeding, known as ovulatory bleeding. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is referred to as "intermenstrual bleeding."
Treatment
1. Western medicine treatment: Diethylstilbestrol 0.25–0.5 mg per day, starting 3 days before ovulation and stopping 2–3 days after the bleeding stops.
2. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment: Liuwei Dihuang Wan, Gujing Wan, and Xuefu Zhuyu Wan.
Prevention and Care
1. Pay attention to menstrual and postpartum health care, maintain external genital hygiene, and prevent pelvic infection.
2. Keep a calm mood and avoid excessive stress.
