Features: Rhetoric is an important component of modern Chinese. The purpose of this textbook is to enable students, through learning, to understand and master the basic knowledge of Chinese rhetoric, improve their ability to use language and text, and develop their appreciation for Chinese rhetoric, thereby laying a solid foundation in these areas. When compiling the textbook, the following points were kept in mind:
1. Practicality: The textbook does not focus on academic discussions of rhetoric theory but primarily addresses the practical needs of verbal communication and existing issues in rhetorical practice, presenting relevant content in a targeted manner. When introducing rhetorical techniques and methods, the emphasis is placed on their rhetorical effects, with strengthened analysis of examples and identification of common mistakes to draw attention.
2. Highlighting Current Societal Rhetorical Practice: Since the May Fourth Movement, excellent literary works and other exemplary texts have been our subjects of study. However, the rich and diverse rhetorical practices in contemporary society deserve even greater attention. The language use in newspapers, television, radio, and other aspects of life are included in our analysis, aiming to give the textbook a sense of timeliness and freshness.
3. Conciseness and Precision: The field of Chinese rhetoric is vast, but this textbook focuses on key aspects such as the refinement of words, the selection of sentence structures, and the application of rhetorical patterns. The aesthetic value of the sound of language is highly important but often overlooked, so a dedicated chapter is included to cover this topic.
All of the above are fundamental elements of language expression, closely related to verbal communication.
