Patient's question:
21-trisomy high risk 1/270 is serious?Doctor's answer:
The results of the hospital's Down syndrome screening can only indicate the probability of having a Down syndrome baby, not that a high-risk baby necessarily has a problem. Your results show a 1/110, or 0.009, probability of congenital idiocy. Under this probability, if an amniocentesis is performed, 99.1% of the fetuses are normal. For such high-risk pregnant women, we generally recommend further amniocentesis. If it is not congenital idiocy, it is the best outcome. If it is, the pregnancy must be terminated because this condition is a chromosomal abnormality and cannot be treated.
