What to prepare for a newborn baby

Patient's question:

I am in Huangpu, Guangzhou, planning to give birth at Huangpu Hospital. Has anyone given birth there before? What kind of things do I need to prepare? How much are the medical expenses approximately? My due date is around February 10th!

Doctor's answer:

Hello, I suggest you can refer to the following materials:
Pre-pregnancy Preparation
Your Attitude
Many people will feel slightly scared as they are about to have a baby, just like you. Most soon-to-be parents experience a mix of joy and sadness, so please don’t worry. Your family will undergo significant changes with the arrival of your baby.
For the health of both you and the baby, maintaining good health during pregnancy is important. Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to stop your daily activities. In fact, moderate exercise can help you stay in good physical condition. Your doctor will also guide you on sexual activity during pregnancy. Generally, sexual intercourse is safe until the last 8 to 8 weeks of pregnancy, but caution and care are still necessary.
Medications
During pregnancy, you should only take medications prescribed by your doctor, especially in the early stages (the first three months). It’s also important to avoid alcohol and smoking.
Exercise and Household Chores
During pregnancy, following your doctor’s advice to engage in moderate exercise is beneficial. It helps tone your muscles and maintain good posture. Of course, every pregnancy is different, so you should discuss physical activities with your doctor beforehand. If you need to work outside, consult your doctor about the best time to stop working. This is usually determined by your health condition and the progress of your pregnancy.
Rest and Sleep
During pregnancy, you may find yourself getting more tired, so getting enough rest is important. Avoid any heavy physical labor, especially in the last few months. Take time to lie down or elevate your limbs for rest. Try to take short naps in the afternoon and aim for 8 hours of sleep each night.
Bathing
Before the last two months of pregnancy, you can take a bath. In the last two months, you should shower or sponge bathe. Gently clean the genital area; unless your doctor specifically instructs otherwise, do not use a douche.
Teeth
Pay special attention to dental care during pregnancy. Brush your teeth thoroughly after every meal, and if possible, visit your dentist regularly. Remember to tell your dentist you are pregnant when you visit.
Hair and Skin
Hormonal changes during pregnancy can affect your overall appearance. Dry hair may become shinier and grow faster or more abundant; on the other hand, some women may find their hair becomes overly oily. After the baby is born, hormonal changes will cause your hair to grow back within a few months.
Clothing
Choose loose, comfortable, and practical clothes. Your bra should provide firm support for your breasts but not compress them or flatten your nipples. Avoid wearing stockings or other tight elastic clothing. Choose shoes with low heels but not completely flat, as they should support your weight and be comfortable.
Travel
If possible, try to avoid long trips, especially in the early and late stages of pregnancy. If you must travel, choose the most comfortable mode of transportation. If you’re traveling by car, make sure the driver and all passengers fasten their lap and shoulder seatbelts at all times. For the safety of you and the baby, lower positions are better. You should also prepare a safe seat for your baby to use on the way home after birth.
