It is primarily intended for the biochemistry teaching of various professional majors in medical higher vocational education. Tailored to the training objectives and targets of higher vocational education, this textbook focuses on fundamental biochemistry content, selecting materials around the biochemistry knowledge points required by various medical higher vocational majors. When presenting basic theoretical knowledge, the textbook emphasizes the connection between theory and practice while also highlighting the latest developments in the field. It lays the essential biochemistry foundation for medical higher vocational students to further study related medical professional courses. The textbook consists of thirteen chapters. Chapter 1 is an introduction, helping students grasp the brief history, basic content, and relationships of the biochemistry discipline with other medical disciplines. Chapters 2 and 3 respectively elaborate on the structure and function of proteins and biological catalysts—enzymes. Chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7 discuss the general metabolism of sugars, lipids, and amino acids in the body, as well as the methods and processes of energy production during the decomposition of substances. Chapters 8 and 9 cover the structure and function of nucleic acid molecules as genetic material, the process of genetic information transmission, and its regulation. Chapter 10 introduces the molecular basis and pathways of cellular communication and signal transduction in the body. Chapters 11, 12, and 13 respectively explain biochemistry-related topics closely tied to clinical medicine, such as the biochemistry of the liver, acid-base balance, and the metabolism of calcium, phosphorus, and iron. The textbook also includes bilingual glossaries (English-Chinese and Chinese-English) of professional English terms to facilitate students' learning and reference. This textbook was collectively drafted by 11 authors, with the outline developed collaboratively and individual chapters written separately, reviewed, and revised by the chief editor. Since the organization and writing of this textbook were rushed, and given the limited expertise of the authors, there are inevitably many shortcomings. We sincerely welcome valuable feedback from all users of this textbook.
