What is the cause of corpus luteum edema dysfunction?

Patient's question:

Ultrasound examination: Retroverted uterus, size approximately 7.1x3.7x4.4cm, normal morphology, smooth uterine fundus, uniform muscle layer echoes, clear endometrial line, thickness of about 1.0cm. A mixed cystic-solid mass measuring 4.4x2.8cm was observed in the left adnexal region, with relatively regular shape, indistinct margins, and heterogeneous echoes. No abnormalities were noted in the right adnexal region. Menstrual period bleeding for 10 days.

Doctor's answer:

Based on your examination results, the size of the uterus and the thickness of the endometrium are normal. The cystic and solid mass in the left adnexa is considered to be a corpus luteum cyst, a lutein cyst, or other functional cysts, which may be related to endocrine disorders, insufficient luteinizing hormone secretion, and other factors or causes.
Advice: Cysts generally do not cause prolonged ovulation period bleeding. Prolonged bleeding may be related to endometritis and should be treated under the guidance of a doctor.
If there is excessive vaginal discharge and local discomfort in the external genitalia, you can clean the external genitalia with warm water or a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution once in the morning and once in the evening.
