Features: Vocabulary from renowned experts authoritative version, covering all vocabulary for postgraduate entrance exams, accompanied by 6 major gifts. Covers all vocabulary in the syllabus, includes frequently tested words beyond the syllabus in past exam papers, and selects high-frequency words from newspapers and magazines. All accompanied by international phonetic symbols, example sentences derived from famous works by British and American writers for learning words and practicing sentences; detailed explanations of word formation, derivatives, and synonyms for memory aid. This book has been meticulously rewritten based on the newly published "National Unified Entrance Examination English Syllabus (Non-English Major)" by the Ministry of Education (hereinafter referred to as the "English Syllabus"). The international phonetic symbols after each entry in this book have been revised according to Daniel Jones's "English Pronouncing Dictionary," a work by an authoritative British phonetician, to maintain consistency and authority in word pronunciation. The "English Pronouncing Dictionary" includes multiple pronunciations for many entries, but this book selects only one pronunciation (with a few entries selecting the first two pronunciations). This book can be used as a self-study guide for postgraduate entrance exams or as teaching material for English coaching classes. Thanks to the support of candidates, the book has consistently ranked among the top-selling books in the country since its release, which has greatly encouraged us and made us more aware of our responsibilities. The newly published "English Syllabus" by the Ministry of Education specifies that the total vocabulary for postgraduate entrance exam English papers (including the 482 new words added in 2005) is 5,612 words. However, based on feedback from many candidates and repeated verification, the number of words and phrases in past exam papers is slightly higher than the total specified in the "English Syllabus." To selectively expand the vocabulary, we aimed to include all words from actual exam papers. By referring to authoritative English reference books domestically and internationally and combining with new words that appeared in past exams, we carefully selected and added 3,122 new words (the total vocabulary of this book is now 7,571 words), making it more comprehensive, practical, and authoritative. Additionally, the book includes high-frequency words that have appeared frequently in recent newspapers and magazines. The newly added words in this book frequently appear in postgraduate entrance exam papers, which perfectly proves that the new words added are not redundant or irrelevant. To facilitate candidates, the book includes the following additional content based on the newly published "English Syllabus": 1. Added international phonetic symbols: The "English Syllabus" does not include international phonetic symbols. This book adds them to help candidates master the correct pronunciation of new words for quick memorization. 2. Added word formation: The original "English Syllabus" did not include word formation, only adding some prefixes and suffixes starting in 2005. 3. Appropriately increased example sentences: The "English Syllabus" does not include example sentences. To help candidates understand the usage of various words, each word (except a few) is accompanied by specific example sentences, aiming for conciseness and avoiding unnecessary quantity. Most of these example sentences are from renowned British and American writers, making their usage highly authoritative. The example sentences focus on frequently tested words, words with multiple meanings, and words with different parts of speech, making them closer to actual exam scenarios. 4. Added new words and phrases: To expand the coverage of new words, ensuring that all words appearing in actual postgraduate entrance exam papers can be found in this book. 5. Increased clarity in parts of speech: In addition to the parts of speech marked in the newly published "English Syllabus," the book also specially marks: vt. (transitive verb), vi. (intransitive verb), c. (countable noun), u. (uncountable noun). 6. Added synonyms and their distinctions: Highlighting the distinctions between frequently tested synonyms. 7. Added pronunciation rules for English words, which can help candidates accurately spell words based on their correct pronunciation. 8. Added stress rules for English words, addressing the regularity of stressed syllables. Only by knowing the stress of English words can the pronunciation rules take effect and help candidates accurately memorize the spelling of words.
