Wang Xizhi, a calligrapher of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, styled Yishao, was from Langya Linyi (present-day Linyi, Shandong). He was born in 303 AD and died in 361 AD, holding the official positions of Right Military General and Inspector of Kuaiji. Thus, he was posthumously known as "Wang Right Military General." He came from a prominent aristocratic family. His (paternal first cousin) Wang Dao (Chancellor), his father Wang Kuang, and his uncle Wang Yi were all renowned calligraphers. His (paternal first cousin) Wang Qia, his nephew Wang Xun (Boyuan), and his son Wang Xuanzhi were also famous calligraphers. From a young age, he received personal training from his family, later studying under the renowned female calligrapher Wei Fen, who highly praised him. Subsequently, he learned from various masters, integrating diverse styles to achieve a level described as "superior to all contemporaries, unmatched in ancient and modern times." He was revered by later generations as the "Sage of Calligraphy."
