Features: Professor Cheng Chung-ying of the University of Hawaii, with profound and extensive thinking, integrates Eastern and Western philosophies, exerting a wide influence in both Chinese and English-speaking worlds. His academic career can be divided into two important aspects: one is "establishing words." Cheng Chung-ying's theoretical explorations cover Confucianism, I Ching studies, ethics, logic, linguistics, analytic philosophy, and post-philosophy, achieving significant contributions in many fields. Especially, by deeply understanding Western philosophy, he integrated Confucian harmonious dialectics and the origin of truth with the ontology of the whole, establishing Ontological Hermeneutics, which became another new form of hermeneutics following Gadamer's linguistic hermeneutics. In my view, the establishment of Ontological Hermeneutics holds dual significance: it can be regarded as the development of Western hermeneutics, while also pioneering the construction of Chinese hermeneutics. The other is "achieving merits." He was also a renowned philosophical activist, as the founder of the "International Society for Chinese Philosophy" and the "Journal of Chinese Philosophy" (English Edition), he made indelible contributions to the exchange, communication, and integration of Eastern and Western philosophies.
