Features: Sun Shen was from Zhenhai, Zhejiang. Starting from 1935, he joined various progressive organizations in Shanghai, such as the League of Left-Wing Writers, Amateur Chorus, Federation of Lyric and Tune Writers, and Song Research Society. In the early days of the War of Resistance Against Japan, he participated in the War Service Office alongside Ma Xin. After the war, he co-founded the China Conservatory of Music with Li Ling and edited the New Music Supplement of the Times Daily. After the founding of the People's Republic, he held leadership positions in music and arts. He wrote many popular songs, among which the March for Saving the Nation is particularly famous. Additionally, during the War of Resistance Against Japan, he composed works such as March Forward, Spring Plowing Song, The General's Tears (a segment of the recitative poem Song of Frigid Winter), and Life is Precious (theme song for the play Heart Defense). During the Liberation War, he created songs like What is Democracy and We Oppose This, which also gained widespread popularity. Most of the songs included in this collection were written during the War of Resistance Against Japan. Like other wartime songs, these works were closely tied to the realities and struggles of the time and served the noble goal of defeating the Japanese invaders and winning the war.
