It is divided into two parts: Geometrical Optics and Optical Design (Part 1) and Physical Optics (Part 2), systematically introducing the fundamental principles, methods, and applications of engineering optics. Part 1 consists of ten chapters, including the basic laws of geometrical optics and imaging concepts, ideal optical systems, plane and plane systems, light beam limitation in optical systems, fundamentals of photometry and colorimetry, ray tracing and aberration theory, typical optical systems, modern optical systems, image quality evaluation and aberration tolerances of optical systems, and optical design. Part 2 consists of seven chapters, including the electromagnetic theory of light, interference and interference systems, diffraction, Fourier optics, polarization and fundamentals of crystal optics, waveguide optics fundamentals, and photonics fundamentals. The chapter on the quantum nature of light and laser fundamentals has been removed. Part 1 has also added content on apertures, aberration characteristic curves and analysis, zoom optical systems, and various image quality evaluation methods in modern optical design software. Part 2 has added content on absorption, dispersion, and scattering during light propagation, liquid crystals, near-field optics, binary optics, light modulation, photonics communication, and photonic crystals. This book can serve as a textbook for instrument and meter-related, optoelectronic information science and engineering, and similar disciplines in universities. It can also be used as an elective textbook or reference book for physics and optics majors, as well as a reference for relevant technical personnel.
