Features: In the 20th year of the Zhenyuan era of the Tang Dynasty (804 AD), strange occurrences plagued the capital Chang'an. A black demon cat that could speak human language intruded into the home of Liu Yunqiao, a guard officer of the Jinwu Guard, and acted arrogantly, seizing his wife. Later, it predicted: the Emperor Dezong would soon pass away; on the northern slope of Mount Li, a strange whispering appeared in the cotton fields, foretelling that Li Zong, the eldest son of Emperor Dezong and the crown prince, would soon fall ill. Indeed, both predictions came true. The magnificent and splendid Chang'an City was shrouded in an eerie and supernatural atmosphere. At the same time, Kukai, a learned monk sent from Japan, and Qu Jisheng, a Confucian scholar, after surviving a sea disaster, overcame all difficulties and traveled along the Grand Canal toward Chang'an. After meeting a mysterious Taoist priest named Danweng in Luoyang, the two finally arrived in Chang'an. The hidden depths of Kukai and the naturally talented Qu Jisheng were gradually drawn into the storm of Chang'an's supernatural and ghostly banquet. At this point, Liu Yunqiao had already been possessed and had lost his sanity. After Kukai and Fengming, a monk from Qinglong Temple, jointly exorcised the evil influence from Liu Yunqiao's body, they heard him reveal the whole story.
