Publishing Date: 2000-05-01
Features: The compilation purpose, word selection range, formatting details, publishing plan, and other aspects of this dictionary were repeatedly studied and discussed by linguists and professors in Beijing. These discussions were later documented as a guiding for both compilers and publishers. The book is characterized by the following aspects:
① The citations for definitions mainly draw from statements in pre-Qin literature or from ancient Chinese teaching materials used in higher and secondary schools.
② Part-of-speech is indicated to facilitate understanding the usage of ancient Chinese sentences and their combinatorial patterns, enabling a comprehensive grasp of the internal structure of ancient Chinese sentences, accurate interpretation of their meanings, and drawing inspiration from the concise syntax of ancient Chinese for writing reference.
③ Headwords or monosyllabic words and entries are annotated with Pinyin letters, enabling readers to pronounce them correctly and promoting the popularization of Mandarin.
④ All headwords and their associated entries use standardized fonts, avoiding obsolete variant characters or traditional characters, thereby promoting the unification and standardization of the Chinese language.
This book selects approximately 11,000 headwords, including monosyllabic words, disyllabic words, phrases, and idioms. The selection of headwords and their entries follows the principle of addressing the difficulties encountered by readers with intermediate education levels when reading ancient texts, with the aim of providing a "toolbook for raising questions and resolving doubts" for university and secondary school teachers.
