Features: Based on the authors' frontline teaching experience in preparing graduating students for the English college entrance examination, we have developed 20 sets of high school English reading ability timed training questions according to the original form of the English college entrance examination. Each set of training questions is designed as a template for the English college entrance examination reading test, including 1 cloze test and 5 reading comprehension passages. The reason for combining cloze test and reading comprehension in this training is that these two are the main question types in English exams that assess reading ability and are also the most challenging parts for many students. At the same time, they account for the largest proportion of the English college entrance examination score, so the authors believe that these two parts should not be trained separately. The training questions in the book are arranged from easy to difficult, with each set recommended to be completed within 45 minutes. Students can set fixed times each week and carry out training according to their own circumstances. During training, record the start and end times, summarize after completion, and calculate the time used and accuracy rate. After a period of training, check whether your English reading ability has improved and by how much. Whether the time taken is reduced or the correct answer rate is improved, it is progress. At the same time, the questions become more difficult as you progress, and students should take this factor into account when evaluating their practice performance.
According to the difficulty coefficient of reading passages stipulated by the new English curriculum standards, the book lists the difficulty coefficient of each passage at the end for reference. Among them: 70-80 is relatively difficult to read; 80-90 is easy to read; 90-100 is very easy to read. The higher the difficulty coefficient, the easier the passage is, but this does not mean that the difficulty of the questions raised in the passage.
At the end of each set of training questions, there are answer explanations. At the beginning of the book, there is a detailed explanation of the specific problem-solving techniques for cloze test and reading comprehension. We hope that students can carefully reflect and summarize while reading this book, and through extensive training, achieve a proficient application of these techniques.
