Features: Language is a product of a certain society and develops along with its progress and changes. Among the elements of language, vocabulary is particularly evident in its development and transformation. As a carrier of vocabulary, a dictionary records, reflects, and inherits language, serving as a tool for describing its development and changes. In other words, a dictionary should promptly reflect and embody the evolution of language, especially the obsolescence of old words, the emergence of new words, and the evolution of word meanings. This is the fundamental requirement for keeping dictionary compilation up-to-date and the primary motivation for organizing this revision. To this end, we have added over 4,000 new words and phrases based on the principles of representativeness, stability, and practicality, such as SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), technophobia (fear of technology), autocross (off-road car racing), and transgene (transgenic). Another goal of this revision is to adjust the internal layout and improve the binding design to make it more convenient for readers to consult and use. In terms of layout, we strive for a more rational arrangement, well-organized entries, and precise and convenient word sense organization. In terms of binding, we aim for a more aesthetically pleasing design, elegant color schemes, high-quality materials, and sturdy binding. Since its publication in 1986, the New English-Chinese Mini Dictionary has been deeply loved by readers for its "emphasis on definitions, with more word senses than similar dictionaries." This revision is a response to the readers' affection. Whether by adding new words and phrases or improving the layout and binding, it reflects a commitment to serving readers and integrating this principle into the dictionary's brand image. We hope our efforts will be recognized by the readers and that our original intentions will be acknowledged by society.
