A family's journey to conquer the world, where murder, madness, charm, and desire unfold one after another. Through the rise and fall of the Gucci empire and the surface of the Morraigio Gucci murder case, you will see the real Gucci. Patrizia Reggiani murdered her husband, Morraigio Gucci, in 1995. Was it because she couldn’t stand his extravagant spending? Or was it because she resented her charming ex-husband’s impending marriage to a new mistress, Paola Franchi? Or was she completely innocent? Through the engaging narrative of the Gucci empire’s rise and fall, Sara Gay Forden guides us behind the murder case, revealing the emotions, power, and fragility of this great fashion family. From the small leather goods shop opened by Guccio Gucci in Florence in the early 20th century to the investment group taking control of the company with its millions of dollars in assets in 1993; from the classic horsebit loafers and bamboo-handle bags of the 1980s to Tom Ford’s edgy yet sensual designs, this book tells a compelling story about cutting-edge fashion, financial entanglements, and personal tragedies.
