Features: Writing is difficult because it represents the highest level of language proficiency and thinking ability for an English learner. When facing an essay prompt, test-takers often either have nothing to say and struggle to start writing, or have many ideas and a lot of material but cannot organize them logically, not knowing where to begin. During the writing process, they must ensure the content is relevant, use standard language, choose accurate words, maintain coherence, and vary sentence structures, while also meeting the word count requirement. Achieving all of this in a short time is indeed challenging. The design purpose of the "Twelve-Sentence Essay Method" is to solve these problems:
1. Twelve Sentence Structures Lock the Three-Paragraph Writing Structure
The Twelve-Sentence Essay Method comprehensively considers factors such as topic review, structural arrangement, writing techniques, topic sentence determination, material selection, and organization. It divides the entire essay into three paragraphs, with each paragraph consisting of approximately four sentences. The average word count per sentence for Level 4 is at least ten, and for Level 6, at least thirteen. The twelve sentence structures are fixed and concise, ensuring that the essay does not deviate from the requirements of the essay prompt while also allowing candidates to use the fixed structures to meet the word count requirements of the test within a short time. This greatly saves test-takers' exam time and reduces their on-the-spot pressure.
2. Fifteen Templates Cover Five Major Essay Types
Based on the patterns of the CET-4 and CET-6 essays over the years, the Twelve-Sentence Essay Method scientifically condenses essays with complex themes and diverse styles into five major types: "Explanation of Phenomena," "Comparison and Choice," "Problem Solving," "Argumentative Views," and "Applied Writing." Considering the tight time and high demand for comprehensive language skills, each of the five types is "modeled." Level 4 provides fifteen templates, and Level 6 provides fifteen templates. This simplifies the complex essay-writing process into a straightforward procedure of selecting templates, filling in topic words, and expanding sentences.
3. Twenty-One Past Exam Papers Practice Template Application Techniques
The templates in the Twelve-Sentence Essay Method are derived from the study of past exam papers, so it is necessary to return to them to prove their applicability. This book selects twenty-one past exam papers from June 1995 to January 2005 and categorizes them into the five major types for practice. Each paper uses a different template to provide excellent model essays. Through the commentary on these model essays, candidates are guided step-by-step to master the writing process, gradually familiarize themselves with the templates, internalize them, and become proficient in applying them.
4. Thirty Practice Exercises Predict New Exam Paper Trends
After guiding candidates to understand basic writing methods, become familiar with the types of questions, and master the templates of the Twelve-Sentence Essay Method, this book accurately predicts the trends of the CET-4 and CET-6 exams in its final section. Following the proportions of various essay types in past CET-4 and CET-6 exams, Level 4 includes fifty-two practice exercises, and Level 6 includes thirty practice exercises. Candidates must complete these exercises according to the actual exam requirements. This allows them to experience the applicability of the Twelve-Sentence Essay Method in practice.
The fixed structure and sentence patterns of the Twelve-Sentence Essay Method reflect its closed nature, making it suitable for beginners. Once candidates become proficient in using templates, they can flexibly apply various sentence structures as required by the exam and even create more suitable ones, which demonstrates the open nature of the method. In summary, "write rigidly first, then flexibly" is the key to the outstanding success of the Twelve-Sentence Essay Method.
