Features: The China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization's Fifth Masonry Structure Committee decided to hold the "2005 National Academic Conference on Basic Theories and Engineering Applications of Masonry Structures." This conference is a national university academic event, aiming to establish a platform for academic, technical, and engineering application exchanges. Through extensive discussions on the fundamental theories, technical measures, and engineering applications of masonry structures, new wall materials, and production equipment, the conference seeks to promote the development of masonry structures and contribute to the full utilization of existing resources while maintaining sustainable societal development. Under the guidance of the Masonry Structure Committee of the China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization, the conference organizing committee sent out calls for paper submissions to teaching and scientific personnel across the country in early 2005. By May 2005, a total of 85 paper abstracts were received. After review by the conference academic committee, 70 papers were ultimately selected for inclusion in the conference proceedings, which were published by Tongji University Press. The papers cover six major themes: experimental research, numerical analysis, new wall materials, crack control and design methods, inspection, appraisal, and reinforcement, as well as code introduction and research progress. These papers reflect the latest research achievements and engineering application status of masonry structures.
