Features: Life issues and moral issues cannot be simplified into purely theoretical problems; they must be established through personal practical experience to build genuine beliefs. Theoretical reflections that arise from this will not turn into empty words or deviate from the right path of life. The Three Books of Life is an outstanding work by the great contemporary Chinese philosopher, Mr. Tang Junyi, written along this approach. The Three Books collect three representative works of Mr. Tang Junyi's life practice and moral experience.
The First Book, Experiences of Life, begins with Mr. Tang Junyi's reflection on the realities of the heart. Through his simple and sincere thoughts, he discovers that behind every reality of the heart lies the hidden beauty and goodness of human nature. He guides readers to find light in darkness, to regain confidence in life, and to never lose hope in life.
The Second Book, Continuation of Experiences of Life, was written during turbulent times of upheaval, wandering, and hardship. At this time, Mr. Tang Junyi had deeper reflections and compassion for the struggles and entanglements of real life. Thus, this book is more profound and somber. Mr. Tang repeatedly laments the difficulties and complexities of life, in a winding and profound manner, as if consoling all souls lost on the path of life: guiding those who have gone astray, inspiring those who seek to rise, showing the way to restore life's balance, and lifting the spirit again.
The Third Book, The Establishment of the Moral Self, delves into the essence of moral life: How can a person transcend the real self, act self-disciplined according to reason, and govern themselves? How can one rise above the illusion and cruelty of the real world to discover the existence of the pure goodness of the heart? If the human heart is inherently bright, where does evil come from? How can one seize the opportunities for progress in life? Although the three books were written in different periods and have different styles, when read together, they maintain their overall coherence—representing the life path witnessed by Mr. Tang Junyi, a path that, despite its ups and downs, always moves toward light.
