Features: In the nearly four years since joining the World Trade Organization (WTO), China has participated in over 30 WTO dispute settlement cases as a third party. China's total import and export trade volume in 2004 exceeded 1 trillion US dollars, and we have broad trade interests in disputes involving the trade systems of our trading partners. The editor has listed trade dispute cases in which China has participated as a third party in recent years, such as the cotton, shipbuilding, sugar, and apparel industries. Through participation in these cases, we have safeguarded our legitimate trade interests, obtained a large amount of international trade information, and been involved in the formulation and development of international trade rules. This has enhanced the professional level of government officials and lawyers in this field in China, enabling them to better protect China's trade interests.
