Features: This book first reviews the development history of the global passenger car industry, then studies the patterns of four shifts in the world automotive industry centers and the conditions required for China to establish itself as a global automotive industry center. From a historical perspective, it provides a concise analysis of the development process of China's passenger car industry. Using the SWOT analysis method, it compares the strengths and weaknesses of China's passenger car industry with those of other countries. It explores the factors affecting the supply and demand of passenger cars and analyzes the passenger car industry chain and its degree of industrial linkage. Based on the theoretical and empirical analysis discussed earlier, it applies Porter's competitive advantage theory and the analytic hierarchy process to evaluate the international competitiveness of China's passenger car industry. The findings indicate that China's passenger car industry remains quite vulnerable, with issues such as industrial hollowing, economies of scale, low technological levels, weak independent innovation capabilities, and insufficient development of domestic brands still hindering further progress. In response to the analysis, the book further examines the regulatory issues in the automotive industry and proposes relevant industrial policy recommendations. Finally, it introduces the basic information of China's ten leading passenger car manufacturers.
