Features: A Key Path to Youthful Success
In the process of starting a business, interpersonal relationships account for 85% of success. Carnegie once said, "Only 15% of a person's career success is due to their professional skills, while the other 85% relies on interpersonal relationships and social skills." Perhaps this statement is exaggerated, but under the same IQ, education level, and work skills, whoever develops better interpersonal relationships will ultimately achieve greater success in their career—this is undeniable. And this kind of interpersonal relationship is primarily dependent on your emotional intelligence (EQ). EQ can be said to be extremely important for one's career path.
Scientists have found that in the factors contributing to success in life and career, IQ accounts for about 20%, while EQ accounts for around 80%. Some scientists have vividly said, "Rely on IQ to go to school and enter government agencies, but rely on EQ to get promoted." This statement makes sense. High IQ can help you get into a key high school, a prestigious university, earn a high degree, and find a good job. However, once in the workplace, the IQ of college graduates is generally sufficient for their actual work. Of course, in talent selection and promotion, their competition focus can be said to be EQ.
People with very high EQ tend to thrive during their entrepreneurial journey, rising step by step. On the other hand, those with low EQ face the opposite situation—they may feel underappreciated and find it very difficult to get promoted. EQ is also extremely important for researchers. According to a survey of researchers at Bell Labs, those with high EQ achieve remarkable results and produce abundant achievements, while those with low EQ struggle and produce fewer results.
You might ask, "Research is related to IQ—is it also related to EQ?" Research shows that a study is not only related to IQ but is also closely linked to EQ. Researchers with high EQ, in addition to performing their duties well, are enthusiastic about communicating with others, engaging in active social activities, and building a broad network of relationships. Interpersonal relationships can also greatly help in future development. For example, when research encounters difficulties or requires relevant data and information, a simple phone call can quickly solve the problem. In contrast, researchers with low EQ only focus on hard work and pay little attention to interpersonal communication, having average relationships. When they face technical challenges, they are reluctant to ask for help from others. When urgently needing experimental data and information, they also hesitate to request it. Without this emotional investment, they lack the confidence to ask for help.
More importantly, when researchers with low EQ encounter difficulties or obstacles during their research, their emotions are easily affected, which directly impacts their research direction and progress. Therefore, researchers with low EQ tend to have slower progress and their achievements are also affected.
In any profession or activity, EQ is extremely important. Any individual engaged in a profession or activity needs certain skills, and among activities that emphasize skill levels, sports competitions are perhaps the most notable. However, the decisive factor in determining the outcome of sports competitions, in addition to skills, is directly related to psychological quality—i.e., a person's EQ.
