Served as the technical lead for the "Dongfanghong-1" satellite, deputy chief designer and chief designer of the "Dongfanghong-2" satellite, deputy chief designer of the domestic satellite communication engineering, deputy chief designer of the Fengyun-2 satellite meteorological engineering, chief designer of the "Dongfanghong-2A" satellite, and chief designer of the "Dongfanghong-3" satellite. Currently, he is the chief designer of the Shenzhou spacecraft system for the Chinese Manned Space Engineering Program and the chief designer of the "Fenghuo-1" satellite communication engineering. In 1992, the Chinese Manned Space Engineering Program was officially launched, and Qi Faren began serving as the chief designer of the Shenzhou spacecraft. Over 11 years, he led the successful realization of the Chinese people's centuries-old dream of flying into space. On October 15, 2003, the Shenzhou-5 manned spacecraft was successfully launched, and Qi Faren was elected as People's Daily's 2003 Annual Person of the Year.
