Publisher: Shanghai Translation Publishing House
Publish Date: 2000-07-01
Features: Since its first publication in November 1983, the German-Chinese Dictionary has been reprinted several times and has been well-received by readers. The development of society and advancements in science and technology inevitably reflect in language. To adapt to the new developments in language and the needs of readers, Shanghai Translation Publishing House established the editorial committee for the revised edition of the New German-Chinese Dictionary (German-Chinese Dictionary) in June 1993, after widely soliciting opinions from readers and the original compilers. The revision officially began in September of the same year. This revision primarily involved additions, deletions, modifications, and further additions, including the addition of over 16,000 new entries, many of which are newly emerging terms widely used in recent years. This brought the total number of entries in the dictionary to over 100,000. Additionally, important new meanings and examples have been added under many original entries. Furthermore, the appendices for names and surnames have been supplemented appropriately, and several new appendices on phonetics and grammar have been added.
Deletions involved removing some overly outdated entries. Modifications focused on updating those entries whose meanings have evolved and whose usage required changes or additions. Additionally, several geographical names in the original appendices have been updated as needed. Currently, German-speaking countries have begun gradually implementing the new orthographic rules for German. The main purpose of the new rules is to facilitate writing in German. Overall, the implementation of the new rules has not brought fundamental changes to German. Given that Chinese readers will likely continue to encounter publications printed under the original orthographic rules for a considerable period, this dictionary retains the original orthography. To help readers understand, learn, and master the new orthographic rules, an explanatory table of the German Orthographic Rules is included in the book. Additionally, we obtained permission from Duden Publishing House, Germany, to include the Comparison Table of Old and New Forms of German Orthography from the 1997 edition of the Duden Standard German Orthography Dictionary as an appendix in this revised edition for reference.
