CCTV Forum (1)

Author: China Central Television News Commentary Department
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-01-01
Features: Among the numerous news programs, in-depth reports, and personality talk shows on CCTV News Channel, "CCTV Forum" has a very accurate program positioning and a unique theme, being the only television commentary program. This is not an issue. However, what constitutes "television media" commentary has no definitive conclusion. CCTV's News Commentary Department's earliest creations, such as "East Today," "Focus Interview," "News Investigation," and "Straight Talk," despite thriving in the "commentary circle," have always been controversial in academia: Is this product truly television commentary? How should television commentary be done? What does it look like? This controversy has not entirely subsided. But at the practical level, it has always been believed that television news commentary can be done like "Focus Interview" or "News Investigation," although strictly speaking, they are actually news in-depth reports that merely borrow a "let facts speak" commentarial stance. The attempts by "CCTV Forum" to seek a unique perspective undoubtedly carry significant political and policy risks. Because what is a unique perspective can easily slide into a unique characteristic. "CCTV Forum" ultimately has to present viewpoints. Sometimes what starts as an angle issue can gradually become a stance issue, and then evolve into a viewpoint. At this point, it is not far from running into problems.
