New York Notes (Part 1) – In this book, Chen Danqing shares his views and reflections on New York and its relation to art. The first half of the book includes his discussions on the state of New York's art museums and essays on a couple of typical artists among the many in New York, as numerous as cockroaches. The latter half collects his thoughts on various retrospectives he has seen over the years in New York, as well as his deliberations on ambiguous issues such as art and freedom, art and the artist, and art and conscience.
New York Notes (Part 2) – Unlike the first part, the second volume compiles some of the writings Chen Danqing has written since 1997. These include the preface to Chen Danqing's Sketchbook, Color and the Gaokao, and his experiences and reflections from teaching at the Oil Painting Department's Teaching Research Class at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. The book also features several dialogues by Chen Danqing, with one particularly sharp and intense exchange titled Art in Crisis, which includes four discussions on the topic, originating from a debate between Chen Danqing and Xu Bing.
