Features: Yang Taiyang, born in 1909, is from Guilin, Guangxi. His late name was Ludi Mountain Elder, also known as Yang Xuewu. In 1929, he enrolled in the Western Painting Department of Shanghai Art College and studied under masters like Liu Haisu, Wang Jiyuan, and Pan Sintong. In 1931, he changed his name to Yang Taiyang and transferred to the Shanghai Art College Western Painting Research Department, studying under Wang Jiyuan, Chen Baoyi, Chen Zhifuo, Guan Liang, and Ni Yide. After graduation, he worked as a fine arts editor at the Shanghai World Book Company. In the autumn of 1935, he went to Japan for further studies, enrolling in the Art Research Department of Tokyo Japan University. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance, he returned to China, engaging in art education while also conducting anti-Japanese propaganda work. Later, he served as a professor at the Guangzhou Art College. In 1949, he went to Hong Kong to participate in activities with the People's Liberation Army. In 1950, he joined the effort to receive the Guangdong Art College and Guangzhou Art College, helping to establish the South China College of Arts and serving as a professor there. In 1951, he returned to Guilin to serve as the of the Guangxi Art College. In 1953, when the Guangxi Art College was dissolved, he moved to Wuhan to serve as the vice president of the Central China Art College and the head of the Painting Department. In 1954, he participated in the first national watercolor exhibition in China, and the same year, his works "Lijiang Wooden Raft" and "Construction of Wuhan Shipbuilding Factory" were selected for the national art exhibition. In 1957, he formed part of the Chinese Artists Delegation to visit Czechoslovakia with Fu Baoshi and Wang Linyi, and later visited Romania with Fu Baoshi. In the summer of 1958, he was transferred to serve as the vice president of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. In 1959, he returned to Guangxi to serve as the head of the Fine Arts Department and a professor at the Guangxi Academy of Fine Arts. In 1979, he became the vice president, and from 1981 to 1986, he served as the president, concurrently holding the position of president of the Guangxi Calligraphy and Painting Institute. His paintings often feature the Lijiang River, with representative works such as "Misty Lijiang," "Lijiang Wooden Raft," "Below Bi Peak," "Tower Mountain Morning Glow," "Elephant Mountain Morning Glow," and "The Sky Is High, Birds Fly Freely." He has published works such as "Guilin Scenery" (Watercolor Album), "Yang Taiyang Paintings," and "Collected Works of Yang Taiyang."
