Features: “A Korean Mom’s personal experience of sending three stepchildren to Harvard and Yale, free from external ‘education theories’ interference, focusing solely on her own children, and diligently and cautiously establishing her own educational methods. Dr. Zhang Binghui, who once taught in the United States and Japan, with over 40 years of educational experience, finally summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of both Eastern and Western education, writing this classic work on parenting. The book introduces how she nurtured her three stepchildren into excellent students and sent them to Harvard and Yale. It is believed that every parent will benefit greatly from reading this book. This is a must-read for every parent who hopes their child will excel both academically and morally.
In 1959, author Dr. Zhang Binghui met her husband and built a new family. The three children from her husband’s previous marriage, who had been entrusted to others for upbringing, lacked a sense of family. They felt insecure, wary, and distrusted her. They lacked self-reliance, proper etiquette, a sense of belonging to a family, and the virtues of humility, friendship, and mutual support among siblings. Their intellectual development was uneven; the second child, Peter, was diagnosed by doctors as having intellectual development issues due to psychological problems, and his grades were poor until middle school. However, inspired by her father’s parenting methods, Dr. Zhang became their “good teacher and friend.” Under her guidance, all three children became outstanding talents in American society.
While working, Dr. Zhang devoted her energy to educating her three children. She taught by example and paid great attention to cultivating their foundational skills. Finally, her eldest daughter graduated from Harvard University in the United States and became an international lawyer. The second child attended Yale University, then pursued economics and management studies at Harvard University, graduating with excellent grades and becoming an outstanding business professional. The youngest daughter, at the age of 16, entered Yale University with excellent grades and later also became an international lawyer.
Dr. Zhang’s parenting methods are very simple. She never provided special tutoring for her children or sought any special educational methods. The secret to family education lies in parents’ role modeling in daily life. In this book, Dr. Zhang emphasizes the truth that “good parents raise good children.” If you want to educate your children well, don’t first look for the cause in the children but start with the parents. Just as every child holds infinite potential, every parent also has their own educational methods. Let’s begin now, starting from the basics, and first become our children’s good teachers and friends!
The growth of a good child relies 99% on the mother.
